Business Courses: An Investment in You and Your Business
You may have dismissed advertisements for online business courses in the past, but have you ever stopped to consider that furthering your education is not only an investment in yourself, but in the success of your business?
Many entrepreneurs start businesses with all the best intentions of building and maintaining a successful venture. Unfortunately, a large percentage of new businesses fail within the first year.
On the bright side, Professor Michael Epstein, of The Institute for the Study of Entrepreneurship and Management of Innovation, has researched this issue, and concludes that “when the entrepreneur has acquired knowledge and received guidance on setting up and running a venture, his chances of success are considerably increased.”
Businesses require more than just a great idea to keep them running. You need to know how things work and what to do. The only way for this to happen is for you to learn it.
Henry Ford said:
“Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.”
There are a lot of online colleges that offer business courses and degrees. Free business courses are also available, either through a local college or online. EduChoices.org lists 12 major universities that now offer free online business courses.
There are also other options besides a traditional business course for furthering your business education. Seminars and workshops covering new business concepts or skills are frequently offered by local and national business groups and educational institutions.
People who have been successful in a particular area will often package and sell their methods, which can be used not only as a business model, but for educational purposes.
Business courses can improve your business skills and understanding, and enhance your business. It isn’t the MBA that makes your business successful. It’s everything that makes you want to be in business in the first place, and a willingness to continue learning over the long haul.
