Business Building Blocks

Business building can conjure up thousands of thoughts and images for any business owner.  For you, it may bring to mind marketing, phone calls and most certainly spending money.

Even 40 years ago, before the Internet, direct mail and lead generation there was one sure fire way to advertise.  That way was by referral.

Bert Markgraf of Suite 101 echoes this idea encouraging every business owner to look closely at his/her network.

Markgraf lists 4 categories of networks:

  • Family and Friends. Make sure your family and friends know what you do and what services or products you can provide.
  • Suppliers. Every supplier has multiple clients.
  • Professionals. Typically, other professionals will have extensive networks that are easily accessible.
  • Business Groups. Meeting with other members in your business niche can give you new ideas and resources.

Consider networking with others who may not work in the same industry as yourself.  Referrals and new business ventures can come to life when you least expect it.  Business building will require a great deal of effort and often times creativity.
