Tightening The Belt For Economic Prosperity

During a time when many companies are laying off employees, shutting their doors altogether or just trying to cut corners, the words “economic prosperity” are not words that may come to mind.

But now more than any other time recently, businesses are trimming expenses in order to pursue economic prosperity.

Laurel Delaney from Open Forum recently interviewed 20 business owners about how they are keeping their cool during the economic downturn.  The responses she received are applicable for most every type of business.

One of my favorite responses was connecting with upbeat high-energy people.  When you are running a business you are carrying an enormous amount of responsibility.  Interacting with individuals who have like-minded business concerns and encourage you is like mental brain-food.

Another great response was a combination of resorting to basics, eliminating extra expenses and enhancing everything your company does.  While cleaning your office space yourself, eliminating caller id or maximizing every employee’s skills may seem tedious, it all adds up.

It’s important to remember that tough times don’t last forever, but tightening the financial belt can give you some extra breathing room.
